During the Sabarimala pilgrimage season the Travancore Devaswom Board make arrangements and facilities for the welfare of the devotees in major temples which are considered as the halting centres. The temple ground is prepared to welcome and accommodate groups of devotees coming from far away. They are provided with space for placing 'viri' (bed spread) and take rest. Devotees can take bath in the temple tanks.
Information about the routes and transportation, food and accommodation are also available in these halting centres. Aluva Sree Krishna Swami temple, North Paravoor Mookambika temple, Ambalapuzha Srikrishna Swami temple, Vaikkom Mahadeva temple, Ettumannur Mahadeva temple, Kizhillam Siva temple, Aranmula Parthasarathy temple, Chengannur Mahadeva temple, Pandalam Valiyakoiyikkal temple, Omallur Rakthakanteswara temple, Malayalappuzha Devi temple, Nilakkal Siva temple, Aryankav Ayyappa temple, Kulathupuzha Dharmasastha temple, Punalur Puthiyetam Sreekrishna temple, Kottarakara Mahaganapathi temple, Karunagappalli Patanayarkulangara Siva temple, Trivandrum OTC Hanuman temple, Neyyattinkara Sree Krishnaswami temple etc. are some of the major halting centres.
The annual pilgrim season of Sabarimala starts from the middle of November to the middle of January. During this period many temples in Kerala experience heavy influx of pilgrims, ayyappa devotees make their Sabarimala darsan trip a pilgrimage tour. They visit main temples on the way to Sabarimala.
Mathur Ganapathi temple, Thaliparamba temple, Kozhikode Thali and Sree Valayanad temple, Katampuzha temple, Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple, Thrissur Vadakkum Natha temple, Ernakulam Siva temple, Chottanikara temple, Thrippunithura temple, Vaikkom temple, Ettumannur temple, Chengannur Mahadeva temple, Tiruvalla Shrivallabha temple, Kottarakara Mahaganapathi temple, Ochira Parabrahma temple, Ambalapuzha Sreekrishna temple, Mannarassala Nagaraja temple, Harippad Subramanya temple, Nilakkal Mahadeva Temple, Erumeli Sastha Temple, Pandalam Valiyakoyikkal Temple , Kulathupuzha Sastha Temple, Achankovil Sastha Temple, Aryankavu Sastha Temple, Thiruvananthapuram Sree Padmanabhaswami temple, Sreekanteswara temple, Pazhavangadi Ganapathi temple, are a few among the important temples visited by the Sabarimala pilgrims. Besides these Dharmasastha and Ayyappa temples along the route are also visited.
